I went to a very crowded Chicago Botanic Garden today and a staff member was greeting visitors in his green apron and green CBG hat. I dodged him in favor of just reading a sign to see where to go for the Orchid Show. He cut in and helped me anyway and gave me good advice that wasn’t on the sign. A little later it hit me – at ECC, I’m like that guy in the hat and apron that many students avoid because they’re afraid to ask questions, or they think they have to figure everything out for themselves, or they just don’t want to talk to anyone. That’s too bad because we can help with a lot of the things that cause students to fail or leave school. We all want every single one of you to succeed, so please use all the resources you have at ECC – advisors, teachers, tutors, librarians, financial aid staff – everyone.
